Celebrating Christmas with the Red-Shanked Douc

Schoolchildren of Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District in Da Nang, Vietnam will be having their second “Christmas in the Forest” celebration on December 27, 2015. Sponsored by LVDI International and organized by our partner, GreenViet, this year’s festivity is called “Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward All Creatures” – a theme that encompasses the overarching values delivered in our collaborative Little Green Guards® program. Ms. Trang Le Thi (Vietnam Education Program Coordinator) and dozens of volunteers will develop and deliver an outstanding program for over 70 children. The program will consist of a guided excursion to Son Tra Nature Reserve to observe the red-shanked douc, followed by a fun-filled Christmas party featuring Santa Claus bringing gifts to the children. Many parents shared that their children have been restless ever since they received the invitation and cannot wait for “Christmas in the Forest” to come sooner. LVDI International will design a pre- and post-program questionnaire to evaluate the effectiveness of the Son Tra biodiversity lesson that is built in to the field trip.
