Sustainable Livelihoods

LVDI International

Poverty is a contributing factor to the non-sustainable harvesting of wildlife and other natural resources in Madagascar. To improve conservation of endangered lemur other wildlife species in the Maromizaha forest, LVDI International has worked with the local community to develop an alternative livelihood program known as Groupe des Entrepreneurs de Maromizaha (GEM). Through training and seed grants, we have helped over 70 women at 10 nearby villages to become skilled doll makers. By supporting the GEM women, we also are securing a brighter future for their children through LVDI International’s education program, the Little Green Guards®. This program not only boosts children’s learning in Biology, English and Art, but also cultivates their appreciation and love for nature. The added knowledge and skills will benefit the children throughout their life.
