Congratulations to Mr. Kefeng Niu (China Program Coordinator) for winning an International Primatological Society – Lawrence Jacobsen Education Development Grant this year. Mr. Niu will use his award toward a project entitled, Fostering “Little Green Guards”: A Primate Conservation Education Program for School Children in Guizhou, China. The program will benefit children living in rural communities near Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve and Mayanghe National Nature Reserve, which harbor the highly endangered Guizhou snub-nosed monkey and François’ langur, respectively. To obtain baseline information about the children’s preferences, knowledge and perception of wildlife, Mr. Niu will use the survey questionnaires developed by Dr. Andy Phillips (President, formerly of White Elephant Conservation Science and Education Solutions; see post Helping Chinese Nature Reserves Foster Children’s Appreciation for Wildlife). Also Mr. Niu will apply his knowledge about the two monkeys to create exciting activities and stories for the children.
